Teenager allegedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend in Orihuela
A 15-year-old girl has been allegedly murdered in Orihuela Costa by her ex-partner, a 17-year-old boy.
Both are Spanish nationals and, according to sources close to the investigation, there were no previous complaints of abuse.
It was the victim’s brother who found Cloe, the victim, shortly before nine o’clock at night with a cut on her neck, at her home on Calle del Morral in Orihuela Costa. He transferred her in a serious condition to Torrevieja hospital, where she died shortly afterwards.
The ex-boyfriend was arrested two hours later. The girl had reportedly broken off their relationship just a few days earlier.

Nationwide marches against gender violence
More than 40 marches called by women’s organisations and feminist groups took to the streets of Spain on Monday evening to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Spain’s Minister for Equality Ana Redondo participated in one of the demonstrations in Madrid, in which she has made an appeal “to the whole society”.
“Every year we march with the slogan: ‘Not one (woman) less, we want to be alive’, but we need men, women, young people,” she insisted.
Feminism was once again divided for what’s dubbed as 25N in Spanish (November 25th), with two separate marches with different objectives.
EU steps up Spanish olives spat with US
The European Union has requested authorisation at the World Trade Organization to impose counter-measures to compensate for US customs duties on Spanish olive imports.
The request was filed at a meeting of the WTO’s Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) after Washington challenged “the amount of retaliation proposed by the EU ($35 million annually)”, a Geneva-based trade official said.

The EU request for DSB authorisation to impose counter-measures on imports from the United States is intended “to compensate for the US’s failure to comply with an earlier panel ruling faulting US anti-dumping and countervailing duties on ripe olives from Spain”, the source said.
“A WTO arbitrator will now determine the appropriate level of counter-measures,” the trade official said.
During Donald Trump’s first term as US president, his administration slapped extra tariffs on Spain’s iconic agricultural export in 2018, considering their olives were subsidised and being dumped on the US market at prices below their real value.
Spain ex-king Juan Carlos sued again for alleged tax crimes
Spain’s disgraced former king Juan Carlos is being sued by a group of retired judges for alleged tax offences.
Spanish prosecutors in March 2022 closed three probes into his finances due to insufficient evidence and the statute of limitations, but said several irregularities had been found.
Among them were lucrative gifts from Gulf Arab monarchies and private trips funded by a foundation based in the tiny European state of Liechtenstein.
Juan Carlos, 86, has made two payments worth more than €5 million to the Spanish tax authorities to settle money owed on undeclared income, widely viewed as a bid to avoid charges.
His regularisation of income declarations from 2014 to 2018 “were not done in accordance with the law”, former Spanish Supreme Court judge Jose Antonio Martin Pallin told public broadcaster TVE.
“We do not have the slightest interest in prison sentences being applied,” but the harshest possible fine should be imposed, he added.
