The wintry weather is continuing in parts of Spain on Tuesday with snow in some areas, plummeting temperatures, heavy rains and storms in coastal areas.
Aragón, Catalonia and Navarre have weather warnings for low temperatures and Catalonia also has an alert for rain and strong waves. Asturias and Castilla and León are still on yellow alert for snow.
Spain’s state meteorological agency (Aemet) posted pictures of the snowfall from Aralla de Luna in León.

Several roads and motorways have been cut in parts of northern Spain, particularly in the Castilla y León region. In León, traffic is cut or affected on N-621 and N-625 at Riaño, as well as on the N-630 at Villamanín, while in Palencia problems have been reported on the CL-627 at La Pernía.
In Burgos, snow has closed or slowed traffic on the BU-570 at Espinosa de los Monteros, the BU-571 at Portillo de la Sía and the BU-572 at Lunada.
Spain’s Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) has a live interactive map to follow all traffic incidents, which you can find here.
Rubén del Campo, spokesman for Aemet, says that on Tuesday “the heaviest rain and showers will occur in the far north of the peninsula, in the Mediterranean area and the Balearic Islands.”
The weather will be calmer around the rest of the country, but will still be chilly as a colder but drier air mass moves in. Temperatures will continue to fall and be noticeably colder than normal for this time of year, with night frosts in inland areas.

Low temperatures warnings have been activated in several parts of Spain, with the mercury expected to drop to as low as -6 degrees in five provinces: Girona, Huesca and Navarra (Pyrenees area); Barcelona (Pyrenees) and Lleida (Pyrenees and Aran Valley).
“Cloudy skies will continue in the far north, with rain and snow from 500 to 1,000 metres above sea level, but the snowfall will be less significant than in previous days,” del Camp adds.
On the Catalan coast and in the Balearic Islands “there may be heavy showers with thunderstorms.” Mallorca and Barcelona are under a yellow warning for rainfall which could see 20 litres in an hour. In the Canary Islands, Lanzarote also has a yellow warning for waves of 4-5 metres.
From Wednesday there will be cloudy skies over much of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands, with showers in the Mediterranean area and southern Andalusia. Frosts will continue in much of inland Spain overnight and snow is forecast in high altitude areas.

Looking at Aemet’s forecast for the rest of the week: “The instability is expected to persist in the north of the peninsula and the north of the Mediterranean area, with cloudy or overcast skies and precipitation affecting the north of Galicia [and] the Cantabrian area… without ruling out occasional rainfall in points of the central and Iberian systems, as well as in the east of the northern plateau, and with the possibility of being locally strong in the Balearic Islands and the coast of Barcelona.”
